A Bright Future for Entomology A Note from the Editor Sheryl Soucy-Lubell Thanks to everyone who sent comments about our first issue of Entomology News last fall. The responses were very enthusiastic. I hope to continue this dialog with you and to print your comments in future issues. Please continue to share your news and suggestions with me. Last fall, the UC Davis Department of Entomology was named as a recipient in the estate of Estelle and Clarence Albaugh, long time residents of southern California. The gift is estimated to be approximately $1 million. The trust directed that the money be used for entomological research. The department anticipates setting up an endowed chair position with the funds. We are pleased to host Ken Yeargan (PhD '74) as our Tom Leigh lecturer for the year. Dr. Yeargan is a professor of Entomology at the University of Kentucky. His research is centered on ecological and behavioral studies of arthropod predators and parasitoids, as well as methods for enhancing naturally occurring biological control of insect pests. Don't miss his seminar at the University Club on May 13th. Gifts and events such as these help ensure that the Department of Entomology at UC Davis will continue to uphold its reputation as one of the top entomology programs in the country.
