I am a third-year Ph.D. student in the Department of Entomology. I am focusing my studies on vector – host – parasite interactions with my research on the transmission of the parasite Leishmania chagasi by the sand fly vector Lutzomyia longipalpis. I am interested in how Lu. longipalpis salivary proteins influence the pathology of an L. chagasi infection in the vertebrate host by modulating cytokine expression of macrophages at the bite site.
