I’m a behavioral and evolutionary ecologist, mostly interested in the interplay between behavior, ontogenetic development and life histories. My work combines lab and field experiments with theoretical analyses. My first independent project focused on the development and reproductive strategies of an annual plant. During my PhD I worked with salamanders that breed in temporary pools, focusing on larval intercohort interactions, larval metamorphosis and adult oviposition habitat selection. I’m now exploring ideas on the evolution of cannibalism, the context and state dependence of this behavior and its population and community-level effects. In addressing these questions, I will be using predatory arthropods as study systems, particularly the big eyed bug, Geocoris pallens.
