Overview

How do spatial heterogeneity, movement, and behavior interact to determine spatial population, community and disease dynamics?

I have begun to answer this question in several systems including tree hole mosquitoes, the tree disease sudden oak death, and, currently, the mosquito-borne disease dengue.  I believe that examining similar questions in different systems may help identify: (1) When and at what scale movement & behavior are important in determining ecological dynamics, and (2) How movement & behavior interact with spatiotemporal heterogeneity to determine population and disease dynamics.
