Fees and Tuition
Fees for full-time graduate students in academic departments are paid at the time of registration. Students who are not legal residents of California must pay an additional fee called the Non-Resident Fee. All first year domestic and international students pay the NRF. In case of doubt as to legal resident status, consult the Registrar's Office, Room 12, Mrak Hall (telephone (530) 752-2971).

Financial Aid Office
FAFSA Requirement: All graduate applicants who want to be considered for any type of financial support (i.e. work study assistance or loans) and who are US citizens, permanent residents or immigrants are required to file a "Free Application for Federal Student Aid" (FAFSA) as early as possible, but no later than February 28. This form, submitted directly to the Federal Student Aid Program Office, Iowa City, Iowa via the internet or standard mail, is used to determine financial need only, a component of the eligibility criteria for many fellowships, and for all forms of financial aid. The FAFSA can be obtained from the Financial Aid Office, North Hall beginning December 1 or on the web at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/. The FinancialAid Office provides financial assistance to qualified students in need of such help. Financial need is a major criterion for most loans and grants and is established by a review of the financial aid application, financial aid form, and income tax forms. More information on the types of grants and loans available can be obtained from the General Catalog or by contacting:

Fellowship and Graduate Scholarships
There are fellowships and scholarships, administered by the University, for which IPM graduate students are eligible. Students desiring fellowships, work-study assistance or loans must complete the FAFSA forms. Applications for assistance are included in the admissions packet. Applications are considered only once a year; the deadline for filing is January 15.

Assistantships
Research assistantships funded by grants to the major professor are usually available for thesis (Plan I) students. More limited financial assistance may be available for non-thesis (Plan II) students. Teaching Assistantships may be awarded for specific courses. Nonresident Tuition Fellowships may be granted on the basis of distinguished scholarship for newly admitted students. Students in either category must apply by January 15 for awards for the next academic year, beginning in Fall. Applications and regulations may be obtained from:

Those who have not progressed beyond the bachelor’s level are eligible if they have a 3.00 GPA in the last three quarters of upper division undergraduate work. Applicants who have attempted any graduate work must have a 3.00 GPA in the graduate work in order to be eligible. Fellowships for payment of Nonresident Tuition are available from the raduate program. To be eligible, you must be a full-time enrolled student (12 units), with a minimum GPA of 3.25. Students should establish California residency after their third quarter of enrollment. Contact the UC Davis Residence Deputy at (530) 752-0879 for information regarding residency for registration purposes. International students’ eligibility for a nonresident tuition fellowship is not restricted to the first year (first year international students apply on the International Student Application.)
