Greg Ferrari

Production Manager
Ferrari Farms, Inc.

Current position: I am the production manager for a highly diversified family owned and operated organic farm. We are a third generation family farm, which specializes in producing premium quality organic tree fruits and nuts. All produce is packed and sold in house. Our farm includes over 100 varieties of peaches, nectarines, plums, pluots, apricots, cherries, apples, and walnuts. As production manager, pest management as well as cultural care of the orchards is my primary responsibility.

How the IPM program helped me get where I am now: What initially drew me to the program was its applied nature. Students receive first hand experience on a wide variety of crops and pests. Conventional as well as alternative systems are explored. In an organic farming situation, control options are limited, so there is generally a more proactive approach to pest management where the emphasis is on preventing outbreaks. My education and experience with the IPM program has helped me to understand and recognize the components necessary to construct my own pest management strategy.
