Jorge Cisneros

Research and Development Scientist
Syngenta Crop Protection Inc.
Western Regional Technical Center
Visalia, CA

Current position: As an R & D Scientist, I am responsible for providing data and information, technical expertise, and stewardship guidance for registered products in support of Sales and Marketing efforts. I generate field bio-efficacy data that define product use directions and directly affect the decision-making on Exploratory, Evaluation and Development status projects. In addition, I am in charge of conducting regulatory studies to support the registration of developmental pesticides or maintain the registration of currently registered pesticides. I am also responsible for contributing to or leading project planning and defining experimental objectives, ensuring trial implementation, generating or acquiring data and information and physical evidence, and reporting results for supporting Research and Development and Business objectives.

How the IPM program helped me get where I am now: The IPM program has provided me with a strong multidisciplinary background in pest management. This has been extremely useful given that my daily work deals with crop protection (insect, disease, and weed control). The emphasis of my research is mainly on the use of chemical control, which is one of the several tools used in most Integrated Pest Management programs. The classes that I took during my graduate school, as well as my field experience during my research as an IPM student, have allowed me to be aware of the complexity of our agro-ecosystems. With no doubt in my mind, the IPM program gave me the foundation that I needed to succeed in my current position as a researcher.
