Who should apply?
The program is directed at individuals interested in practical careers as agricultural consultants, Cooperative Extension Farm Advisors, pest control advisers and operators, industry sales and market development staff, farm managers, horticulturists, and pest management specialists or applied researchers with universities or governmental agencies. Many graduates go on to pursue Ph.D.'s in pest management disciplines.

Faculty and students participating in the IPM Graduate Group are members of various departments and have a wide range of interests and experiences. Students should be motivated to take advantage of the personalized interaction with professors and university specialists offered through this program. Diverse research and internship opportunities are available.

History and Perspective
The Graduate Program in Integrated Pest Management was formerly called the Plant Protection and Pest Management (PPPM) program. The program title was changed in 2003 to more clearly reflect the emphasis on integrated pest management. Established in 1976, it is the oldest multidisciplinary graduate program in the United States focusing on practical pest management.

Prerequisites
General prerequisites for the program are a B.S. or B.A in the biological or agricultural sciences and introductory courses in the following sciences: general chemistry, organic chemistry, biological science with lab (2 semesters or 3 quarters), and plant science/botany. Many students enter the program with some of these requirements not yet satisfied; prerequisite courses may be taken while in the Graduate Program.
