 DAVIS--The UC Davis Department of Entomology is ranked among the best in the world.
The department is is ranked No. 1 in the country, in the last rankings released by the Chronicle of Higher Education. (The rankings have not been updated since 2007.)
Factors considered were remarkable performances in faculty scholarly productivity, scientific citations per faculty, percentage of faculty with a journal publication, number of journal publications per faculty, and grantsmanship, among other factors.

The 2007 index compiles overall institutional rankings on 375 universities that offer the Ph.D. degree. Faculty members can be judged on as many as five factors, depending on the most important variables in the given discipline: books published; journal publications; citations of journal articles; federal-grant dollars awarded; and honors and awards.
The UC Davis entomology graduate program is ranked among the best in the world, according to the 2011 ScienceWatch, which has tracked trends and performance in global research since 1989. UC Davis is ranked first among national universities in number of faculty papers written in the field of ecology and the environment, agriculture, entomology, food science and nutrition, and plant and animal sciences. Entomology majors, graduate students and postdoctoral students can specialize in such fields as agricultural entomology, apiculture and bee biology, behavior, biological control, environmental toxicology, insect physiology and biochemistry, host-plant resistance, parasitology, medical entomology, molecular biology, sociobiology, and systematics, among others.
The department is known for its internationally recognized faculty, state-of-the-art research facilities, global research projects and its outstanding alumni and staff.
