DAVIS--Basia Irland, who explores the connections between water and waterborne pathogens and other global issues relating to water, will lecture on “Water Library: International Water Art Projects” on Tuesday, Feb. 23 on the UC Davis campus.

Irland, an emeritus professor in the Department of Art and Art History, University of New Mexico, and a sculptor, activist and filmmaker, will speak at 5 p.m. in 176 Everson Hall. The lecture is free and open to the public.

In addition, she will show some of her short films, including "Elephantwater" and "Bilharzia Blues.”

"This should be especially interesting to medical entomologists and others who study water-borne pathogens," notes UC Davis entomologist professor and artist Diane Ullman, associate dean for undergraduate academic programs at the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and a director of the UC Davis Art/Science Fusion Program.

Irland will be available after her talk to sign copies of her book, Water Library: A Sculptor’s Research into the Phenomenon of Water, which will be available for  purchase.

The lecture is sponsored by the Design Program, Land Air Water Resources, English Department, Art/Science Fusion Program, John Muir Institute for the Environment, Technocultural Studies, Center for Watershed Sciences, Civil and Environmental Engineering; and American Studies.
