DAVIS—Two 30-year UC Davis employees involved with mosquito research programs were among those awarded citations of excellence at a staff reception on Thursday night, May 22 at the chancellor’s residence.
Nancy Dullum, program assistant for the statewide UC Mosquito Research Program, and Debbie Dritz, mosquito researcher in the UC Davis Department of Entomology, each received a citation-of-excellence award. They were nominated by their peers.
In introductory remarks, Chancellor Larry Vanderhoef noted that together the two have served the university for 60 years. Lin King, president of Staff Assembly, and Kay Resler, who chaired the Citations for Excellence Committee, handed out dozens of awards to individuals and teams.
Dulllum joined the UC Mosquito Research Program in 1977 and has smoothed the transition for four directors, her nominators related. Dullum is known for her “trademark friendly and helpful attitude.” The UC Mosquito Research Program, headquartered in Briggs Hall, is a statewide program of the UC Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
Dritz, who works in the Sharon Lawler laboratory at Briggs Hall, studies the biology and ecology of mosquitoes and efficacy and nontarget effects of mosquito control methods and materials. Her research helps mosquito abatement districts realize lower operational costs and fewer site visits because of precisely targeted surveillance, her nominators related.
Dritz is serving her second consecutive year as president of the Northern California Entomology Club, a professional group of university faculty, staff, graduate students and outside agencies. For several years, she mentored high school students interested in science careers.
