DAVIS--Extension apiculturist Eric Mussen of the UC Davis Department of Entomology presented a talk on "Hints for Successful Backyard Beekeeping" at the 2011 2011 North American Beekeeping Conference and Tradeshow, held Jan. 10-14, Galveston, Texas.

He covered when it is necessary to requeen the hive, why it is important to be nice to your neighbors; why it is crucial to provide water for your bees, why bees don't mind loud music; and why bees are "touchy" around March 15, among other topics.

Mussen has been a member of the UC Davis Department of Entomology since 1976.
