The Bohart Museum of Entomology will host an open house, "Buzz Words: Insects in Literature," from 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday, May 16, that will feature two bee book authors, Krystle Hickman of Los Angeles and UC Davis faculty member Felicity Muth, and dragonfly "rhyming prose" author Christofer Brothers, a UC Davis doctoral candidate who researches dragonflies.

The Bohart Museum is located in Room 1124 of the Academic Surge Building, 455 Crocker Lane, UC Davis campus.

The widespread “pest-proliferation hypothesis” that climate warming will result in unprecedented agricultural pest populations and lead to monumental food insecurity worldwide is oversimplified, a nine-member team of entomologists and ecologists led by UC Davis entomologist Mia Lippey declared today.  

UC President's Postdoctoral Fellow Magda Argueta-Guzmán of UC Merced will speak on "More Than Just Flowers: Resource Use in Native Bees" at the UC Davis Department of Entomology and Nematology seminar at 12:10 p.m., Wednesday, May 13 in 122 Briggs Hall.

Three UC Davis doctoral students specializing in entomology are recipients of four major fellowships, with funding totaling more than $500,000.

UC Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Fellow Lyna Ngor of the UC Irvine Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, will discuss "Exploring Flower-Mediated Wolbachia Transmission: A Self-Sustaining Approach to Mosquito-Borne Disease Control" at the UC Davis Department of Entomology and Nematology's seminar on Wednesday, May 6.

Internationally renowned bee scientist Robert E. Page Jr., a UC Davis doctoral alumnus and a UC Davis/University of Arizona administrator emeritus, is a newly elected member of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS). 

NAS announced today the election of 120 members and 25 international members in recognition of their distinguished and continuing achievements in original research.

Beekeepers who want to learn more about queen-rearing techniques are in luck.

The UC California Master Beekeeper Program (CAMBP) is offering an in-person Queen-Rearing Techniques Short Course (QRTSC) on Saturday and Sunday, May 30-31 at the Harry H. Laidlaw Jr. Honey Bee Research Facility on Bee Biology Road, UC Davis. The course will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. 

Assistant professor Karthikeyan Chandrasegaran of the UC Riverside Department of Entomology will speak on "Network-Based Inferences in Mosquito Transcriptomics" at a seminar hosted by the UC Davis Department of Entomology and Nematology on Wednesday, April 29.

The Bohart Museum of Entomology and the UC Davis Bee Haven, both part of the UC Davis Department of Entomology and Nematology, will be participating in the UC Davis Take-Our-Children-to-Work Day on Thursday, April 23. 

A new exhibit at Briggs Hall during the 112th annual UC Davis Picnic Day on Saturday, April 18 will feature the wetlands restoration project of medical entomologist-geneticist Geoffrey Attardo, associate professor, UC Davis Department of Entomology and Nematology and his colleagues.
