January 2025 ENT Student of the Month: Felix Duley
My name is Felix Duley, and I am so honored to be a nominee for entomology student of the month! I study and live in Davis with my fiancé and our plethora of pets, including spiders, scorpions, fish, and our two cats. Any time not spent studying I spend creating art, hanging out with my family and friends, or exploring nature.
I have been lucky enough to be a student at UC Davis since the fall quarter of 2022, and this spring I will finish up my undergraduate journey with my bachelor’s in entomology. While at UC Davis, I have been able to gain priceless mentorships, friendships, and invaluable field and laboratory experience. I have had the absolute pleasure of being an undergraduate research assistant in Jason Bond’s lab since my admission, where I have gotten to work with truly wonderful, kind, and brilliant people who have made sincere efforts to involve me in their research whenever possible; helping me gain confidence in envisioning my future self as a professor and researcher. Immediately post graduation, I will be taking a gap year before heading to graduate school to further my progression towards that goal!
My current hope is to end up specializing in arachnid sciences (specifically working with Theraphosidae), but my experiences at Davis have broadened my interests greatly, and I could see myself happy to work with any group under the greater entomological umbrella.
